I have been sketching the fields, ponds, and woods around my family's land in Waldoboro, Maine, for the last twenty years. A few years ago, I started making paintings based on these drawings. These pieces are influenced by initial observations of place - the marks, layers, and erasures of the original drawings intentionally telegraph through the layers of cold wax and pigment. For me, the medium of wax and pigment forces a slow process of deliberation, observation, and response.
